United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has announced its audited results for the financial year ended December 31, 2017, showing significant growth in the contribution and market share from its pan-African subsidiaries, among other positive trends in its financial performance. A statement from UBA at the weekend showed that the pan-African financial institution’s gross earnings grew substantially to N462 billion, up by 20 per cent from N314 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2016. According to the report released to the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Friday, UBA delivered a strong 16 per cent year-on-year growth in profit before tax to N105 billion, compared to N90.6 billion in the 2016 financial year. Its profit after tax also leaped to N78.6 billion, an 8.8 per cent year-on-year growth compared to N72.3 billion in 2016. A lovely and historical event was witnessed earlier today as 50 couples tied the knot in a mass wedding ceremony at Immaculate Heart Of Mary, Parish, Umuagwo Ohaji In Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State. The event was said to have attracted a large crowd at the community where the ceremony was held. After the couples exchanged their marital vows, they offered special thanksgiving to God and signed their marriage registers accordingly. The renewed cult war in Cross River state has claimed the life of another victim who was shot dead publicly on Friday, March 23rd. The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Wednesday, for three days running, extended losses, dropping by 0.46 per cent, amid profit taking. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the All-Share Index dropped further by 190.93 points or 0.46 per cent to close at 41,495.43 against 41,686.36 recorded on Tuesday. Also, the market capitalisation, which opened at N14.912 trillion, dipped N68 billion or 0.46 per cent to close at N14.844 trillion. NAN reports that the market failed to react positively to the audited results being released in the market, which analysts attributed to unstable economic environment. Some blue chips posted price loses and this was led by Nestle with a loss of N30 to close N1.50 per share.
